Tokyo---Tokyo stocks opened 0.73 percent higher on Tuesday with investor sentiment lifted by a weaker yen and gains on Wall Street.
The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 141.05 points to 19,539.03 at the start.
The dollar was at 119.49 yen early Tuesday, compared with 119.52 yen in New York late Monday and down from 119.05 yen in Tokyo earlier Monday.
A weaker yen is positive for Japanese exporters as it makes them more competitive abroad and increases profits when repatriated.
The euro bought $1.0932 and 130.63 yen on Tuesday against $1.0928 and 130.60 yen in US trade.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.66 percent Monday on easing concerns about Federal Reserve interest rate increases following poor jobs data.
Surges in petroleum-linked equities also contributed to boosting the market as US oil prices rallied above $50 a barrel.
