Basra: Ambassador of Qatar to Iraq H E Khalid bin Hamad Al Sulaiti, praised the good organisation of the 25th Arabian Gulf Cup (Gulf 25), which is being held in Basra for the second time after the 1979 edition, which was held in the capital, Baghdad.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ambassador stressed that the tournament is witnessing a positive atmosphere and high organisation at all levels, starting with receiving the participating delegations, and preparing all logistical matters and good stadiums.
He pointed out that Qatar has supported the tournament since it was decided to be held in the Iraqi city of Basra, and was keen to participate at the highest levels, stressing that Qatar supports all steps that contribute to helping the Iraqi people in various fields, including sports.
The Ambassador, who was constantly following the details of the tournament through continuous visits to Basra Governorate and meeting with officials, added that the tournament is witnessing security stability in addition to the availability of all services for the GCC national teams fans, pointing to the completion of all organisational and technical matters, which helped to prepare Basra to host the tournament.
He praised the local authorities in Basra, led by Governor Asaad Al Eidani, who made exceptional efforts to make the tournament a success and coordinated with all delegations, especially the Qatari delegation.
He concluded his statement by stressing that the tournament has historical importance for the Gulf, its countries and its teams, expressing his wishes for the tournament success.
The tournament got underway yesterday and will conclude on January 19.
