The Permanent Committee for the Management of Central Markets at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) said yesterday that it will conduct an open raffle draw tomorrow to allocate fish stalls in Um Salal central market.

A total of 251 applicants will take part in the raffle draw taking place in The Ritz-Carlton at 10am. Leasing of the fish stalls will be for a two year period, which is renewable for a similar period in accordance with the conditions and provisions. Shortlisted applicants were informed through SMS to attend the raffle, said the committee.

Tenants who win the investment opportunity and lease shops allocated for selling vegetable, fruits, dairy, meat and fish need to deposit QR 40,000 which is not refundable, as the tenants will receive the shops fully furnished. The committee said that tenants need to start operating the shops within a month after they receive them and provide quality products to customers.

The Umm Salal Central Market, which is scheduled to open by the end of the first quarter this year, includes ten benches for selling fish, 51 primary stalls from where the current tenants could move to the current fish market.  Earlier the committee invited interested investors to lease the Um Salal market facilities which includes outlets such as a fish and seafood restaurant, a cafeteria , a bakery, and six vegetables/fruits shops - four for wholesale and two for retail.

It also has ten shops for various activities, including those for selling meat, poultry, milk and juice. The market also includes an outlet for sweets and nuts , a café and honey shop, as well as stores selling spices/herbs and marine/fishing tools and traditional bakery. This is in addition to two administrative offices for auction, and three offices for fish trade.
