Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has trained a total of 2,753 teachers, administrators, principals and coordinators of Independent Schools in 2016. 

The Ministry’s Centre for Training and Educational Development has entered into a partnership with Qatar University, Qatar Leadership Center, Arab Centre for Educational Training for Gulf States, Community College, Rua Center for Assessment and Support of Children, said Hassa Al Ali, Director of Training and Educational Development Center of the Ministry of Education. She added that through these partnerships, the centre managed to train more than 2,753 of administrative and teaching staffs of Independent Schools. 

Speaking at a press conference yesterday at the Ministry’s headquarters, Al Ali said the total number of teachers trained for the academic year 2016/17 in three levels was 1,050. The number of basic programme subject coordinators who were trained reached 300 and the participants in basic training programme for administrators and academic deputies reached 250, and teachers and coordinators of support for students with disabilities were 75. 

Training programmes are implemented by professional and education experts in cooperation with our partners, said Hassa Al Ali. The Community College is all set to launch associated diploma programme on early childhood in December where students can study for 60 hours in the Community College and continue for another two years in QU to obtain a Bachelor Degree, said Ibrahim Al Naimi, President of Community College. 

There is a continuous cooperation between the college and the Ministry of Education to train teachers and improve education outputs, said Al Naimi. The early childhood programme is to graduate female teachers for this level of education and the training programme was developed in collaboration with the Ministry, said Al Naimi. "The programme trained many teachers and now we are planning to develop it to a diploma and bachelor degree in cooperation with QU," said Al Naimi.

The partnership with Ministry of Education was started six years ago and trained more than 500 administrators and academic deputies, said the Director of the Arab Center for Educational Training for Gulf States, Moza Al Kaabi. The centre is going to open a number of new training branches in different parts of the country to expand training programmes and enhance cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Al Kaabi added. 

The College of Education at QU has trained thousands of teachers and administrators since 2010 through three-level programmes where new teachers get 60 hours of training. The collage offers 26 training workshops at the three levels of training said Abdullah Abu Teyah.
