Doha: A Saudi business official yesterday said one of the major challenges facing Arab trade chambers was nationalising jobs and creating new job opportunities for Arab youths.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 32nd meeting of the executive commission of the Federation of GCC Trade Chambers, Mohamed Al Otaibi, Secretary General of the Saudi Chambers Federation said the private sector was a major source for creating job opportunities. The sector contributes 48 percent to the Kingdom’s GDP, he said.
The obstacles facing the creation of a common Gulf market is one of the challenges for the Gulf Trade Chambers Federation. A common Gulf market would enhance economic growth of Gulf countries, he stressed.
The General Manager of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) Remy Rowhani said the speech of the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani before the Advisory Council has put a huge responsibility on the QCCI to build the country’s economy.
“QCCI takes the speech of the Emir as a real challenge in order to carry out the plans and policies featured in it and activate greater cooperation between the Chamber and the government in various fields,” Rowhani said in press statement on the sidelines of the 32nd meeting.
Rowhani added that the private sector plays a major role in the economic process, noting that the QCCI works closely to implement the policies and goals included in the speech, most importantly the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The main challenge facing the private sector, Rowhani said, is the best way to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the strongest economy in the region, adding that QCCI board seeks to solve the problems of traders and industrialists in different sectors, especially small and medium-sized enterprises on which the economy relies.
He called on members of the Chamber to cooperate with the executive management and board members so as to overcome any challenges facing the commercial and industrial activity. QNA
