Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs will open registration for residents and citizens wishing to perform Hajj during the 2027 season from 12 midnight on Sunday, September 20 until October 20, 2026, the Ministry’s Hajj and Umrah Affairs Department announced.
Registration will be conducted exclusively through the official Hajj portal at hajj.gov.qa, as part of the Ministry’s early preparations for the upcoming Hajj season and efforts to enhance services provided to pilgrims from Qatar.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at the Ministry headquarters where officials outlined registration procedures, eligibility requirements, organizational arrangements and new digital services designed to facilitate the pilgrim’s journey from registration through contracting with licensed Hajj campaigns.
Addressing the press conference Director of the Hajj and Umrah Affairs Department Ali Sultan Al Musaifri, said Qatar’s Hajj quota for the 2027 season is 4,400 pilgrims. He said the decision to begin registration early was based on the positive results of early registration in previous seasons, which allowed Hajj campaigns to complete contracts and operational arrangements well in advance, directly contributing to improved service quality and greater preparedness.
Al Musaifri noted that Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has also adopted an early timetable for preparations, including the allocation of quotas for countries, completion of accommodation, catering and transportation contracts, and opening electronic channels for campaign procedures.
He said starting Qatar’s procedures early would allow pilgrims and licensed campaigns to make the best use of the opportunities available and ensure a higher level of operational readiness. For Qatari citizens, applicants must be at least 18 years old. Each application may include up to three companions.
For residents and citizens of GCC countries, applicants must be at least 45 years old, must not have previously performed Hajj, and must have maintained continuous residence in Qatar for at least 15 years. They may add one companion to their application.
Al Musaifri urged applicants to carefully review all requirements and ensure that companions are included in the main application from the outset to avoid complications during the subsequent approval process.
The eligibility criteria are based on the health capability requirement approved by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah since last season, which seeks to ensure that pilgrims are physically capable of performing the rituals safely and with minimal health risks.
Head of the Medical Unit of the Qatari Hajj Mission Dr. Hamad Al Rumaihi, said obtaining a health capability certificate confirming that the applicant is medically fit is the first and essential step for anyone wishing to register for Hajj this season.
He said: “The certificate will be available through all health centres across Qatar. Applicants can visit any health centre to undergo the required medical examination, after which the result will be entered electronically into the health system linked to the Hajj and Umrah Affairs Department.”
Al Rumaihi said the health fitness requirement is intended to protect pilgrims and enable them to perform the Hajj rituals safely and comfortably, while reducing potential health risks during the journey.
He added that details of the health requirements will be available through the Hajj and Umrah Affairs Department’s official website.
All licensed and approved Hajj campaigns for the 2027 season will be listed on the official Hajj portal, allowing applicants to compare and select from the available campaigns.
Al Musaifri said pilgrims will be required to pay an amount through the electronic system when completing the contracting process. The amount will be announced at a later date, but he stressed that it is not a registration fee. Instead, the payment will constitute an advance payment that will be deducted from the final cost of the contracted Hajj package.
He explained that the final cost will vary from one campaign to another depending on the level of services provided, including accommodation, transportation, catering and other support services.
Electronic screening of applications will begin immediately after registration closes on October 20. Acceptance and approval notifications are expected to be sent by text message to the phone numbers registered in the system from the end of October, enabling successful applicants and Hajj campaigns to finalize arrangements at an early stage.
