DOHA: Doha Municipality has set up a team of experts to receive complaints from the public about violations of rules by commercial outlets, especially those selling meat, fish, fruits and vegetables round-the-clock during Eid-Al-Fitr holidays.
“The team will coordinate with municipal inspectors and veterinary doctors to respond quickly to public grievances,” said Mohamad Ahmad Bu Hashim Al Sayed, Head of the Health Monitoring Unit at the municipality, reports Al Sharq.
The unit plans strict monitoring of all food outlets, abattoirs, and fish, fruits and vegetable shops at the Central Market.
Fruits and vegetables markets at Central Market will be closed on the first day of Eid today and reopen tomorrow.
Dozens of veterinary doctors and inspectors will be deployed for strict monitoring of these places during the Eid holidays.
Abattoirs will work from 5am to 5pm. Five slaughter houses have served customers throughout Ramadan. But during Eid-Al-Fitr, only two abattoirs (Al Ahali 1, the manual slaughterhouse, and another one for camels and cows) will remain open.
Veterinary doctors sometimes get injured during work at abattoirs. At least five were injured during Ramadan.
They checked a large number of animals before and after slaughtering on a daily basis, said Al Sayed.
