Doha: Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) hosted an Iftar gathering for the volunteers who participated in the Ramadan ROTA 2016 Project to acknowledge and celebrate their commitment to serve the wider community in Qatar.
The event, sponsored by Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Limited (Oxy Qatar), was held at Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Centre. A total of 250 volunteers were praised for dedication and hard work in participating in the month-long programme of community service activities.
Throughout Ramadan, volunteers were involved in reaching out to the wider community, developing and strengthening relationships with partners and raising awareness about volunteerism and community service.
“Our volunteers have demonstrated incredible commitment to our Ramadan initiatives. They played an integral role in ensuring we were able to execute all our community outreach programmes,” said Essa Al Mannai, Executive Director, ROTA.
“The Ramadan 2016 Project provides new volunteers with the opportunity to participate in voluntary service and contribute to the development of communities in Qatar. We are grateful for their dedication towards making a positive difference to the lives of others.”
Volunteer Khalid Albalushi said: “It has been an honour to be involved in the project. It enabled me to give back and engage with members of the community in a meaningful way. Being a ROTA volunteer has taught me so much about the importance of building a deeper sense of community.”
Stephen Kelly, President and General Manager, OXY Qatar, said: “Oxy Qatar is honoured to be sponsoring the initiative. We are committed to making positive contributions to the wider community in Qatar and we’re delighted to partner with ROTA, an organisation that shares many of our social responsibility objectives and is involved in community outreach and development.”
ROTA is a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF). The project supports the Human Development and Social Development Pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 by equipping Qatari youth with skills to contribute to society, while developing a spirit of tolerance, constructive dialogue and openness.
