ANAHEIM: The Texas Rangers scored nine runs in the first four innings and cruised to a win over the Los Angeles Angels.
J.P. Arencibia and Michael Choice each homered for the Rangers (17-14), Choice’s three-run blast in the fourth inning giving Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish more than enough cushion to work with.
Darvish (2-1) gave up solo home runs to Erick Aybar and designated hitter Albert Pujols in the first inning, then settled in and allowed just three runs on seven hits while striking out nine in 6 1/3 innings.
Third baseman Todd Frazier’s double down the left field line with two outs in the 10th inning drove home Chris Heisey with the winning run, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a victory over the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.
Scooter Gennett and left fielder Khris Davis homered for Milwaukee (21-11) while Brayan Pena and second baseman Brandon Phillips homered for Cincinnati (15-16). The Oakland Athletics avoided a three-game sweep at the hands of the Boston Red Sox by pulling out a victory in 10 innings.
Left fielder Yeonis Cespedes barely beat out a bases-loaded infield hit with two out in the 10th to help the A’s increase their record to 19-12.
The loss again kept the Red Sox (15-17) from getting back to .500 for the first time since they were 2-2.REUTERS
