A three-month environmental campaign has been launched at Doha College in collaboration with environmental solutions provider averda and W Doha Hotel and Residences. The project has been launched to raise awareness of the importance of recycling by engaging students and parents in a number of competitions to recycle plastic bottles and cans using averda’s reverse vending machines.
From January to March, monthly competitions to recycle plastic bottles and cans will take place amongst students, classrooms and families, with the opportunity to win a number of exciting prizes at W Doha, including cupcakes from W Café and an all-inclusive weekend stay.
The campaign’s overall mission is to promote recycling as a daily habit in people’s lives by inspiring them to care for the ecosystem and take responsibility for their actions.
Of the collaboration, Doha College said: “The Environmental Club at Doha College has made sure every student understands the message of this campaign, to reduce, reuse and recycle in order to protect our planet. Averda’s reverse vending machines have been incredibly popular. One primary student brought in 3,840 plastic bottles and that was just day one! Without averda and the W Hotel, this project would not have captured the students’ imagination as much as it has. We are very grateful to them for supporting our campaign and we can't wait to see how much we have recycled at the end of the three-month campaign.”
“As the largest environmental solutions provider in the region, we are committed to inspiring change,” said John Irvine, averda’s managing director in Qatar. “These reverse vending machines were developed with the goal of educating and motivating people to take responsibility for their actions. Incentives can have a huge impact on the decisions people make, and we are pleased to partner with W Hotel and Doha College to encourage students to recycle and reuse, and to make more environmentally conscious choices.”
Safak Guvenc, General Manager of W Doha, concluded: “We are honoured to be working on initiatives that drive awareness of green issues and that are aligned with Qatar’s 2030 national vision by working with the local community.
“Together we are on the right direction towards environmental sustainability within not only the school, the hotel and the local community, but on a global scale.”
