Doha: The Joint Committee for Rain Emergencies of the Ministry of Municipalities carried out non-stop intensive collection exercises to clear the roads in the country of rainwater from January 3 to 4, working for 24 hours straight.

In an infographic on its official Twitter handle, the Ministry said its teams had 624 workers who used 221 machines and pumps to clear 4,190 tanker loads of rainwater.

Citizens and residents made 195 reports to the Unified Call Centre and officials immediately attended to these reports, which were received via Unified Call Centre at 184, Public Works Authority at 188 and Albaladiya at 184.

Heavy rains, strong winds and thunder have been experienced in parts of Qatar this week. The authorities have warned citizens and residents to be careful when driving, going out of the house and avoiding going to the sea during this period.

The Qatar Meteorology Department, in a tweet yesterday, said it had observed rain of varying intensity in some areas, especially in the north.
