Katara DFI Cinema started screening Spain’s official submission for the 85th Academy Awards, Blancanieves from yesterday at the Katara Drama Theater, Building 16.
Blancanieves will be screened until September 9.
Set in southern Spain in 1920s, the film is a modern tribute to silent films and a great chance for audiences in Doha to experience the enchanted fairy tale in black and white.
Blancanieves tells the story of a little girl who had never met her mother and was hated by her evil stepmother. She learned the art of her father, a famous bullfighter, and one day ran away with a troupe of dwarfs and was set to become a legend.
The film received over 25 nominations and 30 awards in the international festival circuit including two awards at the 2012 San Sebastian International Film Festival and 10 awards at its native 2013 Goya Awards. The film offers its audiences magnificent choreography, backed up with the type of musical score that makes one forget about the non-existing dialogue.
