QATARI students won two silvers and three bronze in the six Gulf Mathematics Olympiads 2017 which ended yesterday in Riyadh.
Total 36 students from six Gulf States participated in the contest which was held from April 2 to 5. Qatar participated in this contest with six students, five of them won medals.
Dr Ali bin AbdulKhaliq Al Karni, General Manager of Bureau of Education for Gulf States, honoured 18 winners from different Gulf States.
The first silver medal for Qatar was won by Methail Rashed Al Naimi, from Al Khor Secondary School for Girls, and another by Alyaa Shaker Al Barti, from Amna bint Wahab Secondary School for Girls.
The three bronze medals were won by Amina Al Mansouri from Amna bint Wahab Secondary School for Girls, Abdullah Al Jaberi from Doha Secondary School for Boys and Nasser Al Buaynain from Al Wakra Secondary School for Boys. Dr Al Karni, emphasised importance of the competition and said ministry of education in Saudi Arabia and rest of Gulf States were giving high attention to the competition to improve level of competitiveness among students in there, especially in mathematics and physics.
The students are requested to answer on four mathematical questions that measures the levels of intellect of the students. The questions cover different areas of mathematics and prepared by team of specialists headed by Dr. Geoff Smith from University of Bath in United Kingdom.
The students were accompanied during the competition by a number of teachers of mathematics and educational trainers.
