ExxonMobil’s cyber security expert, Ana Girdner (pictured), recommended a coordinated, comprehensive and sustainable approach to mitigate cyber risks during a panel at the GCC Digital Security Forum in Doha this week.
This year’s GCC Digital Security Forum is hosted by MEEZA, a Qatar Foundation joint venture in collaboration with Al Iktissad Wal-Aamal Group.
Girdner, with more than twenty years of experience with ExxonMobil, participated in a panel on ‘Enterprise Strategies against Cyber Threats’, where she joined representatives from the US Department of Commerce, the UK government’s intelligence and security organization, GCHQ, the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) and speakers from other GCC countries.
“Technology evolution and the rapid pace of its deployment have together created many hidden exposures and vulnerabilities for all of us,” said Girdner. “Forums such as this are so critical because they raise awareness of our role, as government and industry, to recognise cyber threats and establish effective security programs to manage these risks.”
“Digital infrastructure plays a vital role in the safe and reliable operations of our critical energy assets and resources, and protecting these assets should be a top priority,” she said.
