Children in Qatar will get involved in a charity drive being launched by the Al Asmakh Charity Foundation (Al Asmakh) to support Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
A delegation from the Foundation headed by Dr Mahmoud Abdel Wahhab Al Samman, chairman of its executive committee and Ibrahim Mohammed, director of programmes and projects, recently made a field visit to Lebanon.
The visit also involving Omar Louis and Yousuf Younus from ‘Advanced Relief Office’ in Lebanon, was to understand the volume of the tragedy of Syrian refugees there and estimate the size of humanitarian aid, which Al Asmakh charity can provide.
“With partners hailing from institutions, associations and other concerned bodies, an action plan has been set for three years that include several projects and programs to be implemented during the next few weeks, which will get underway on the title “From House to House,” and “From Child to Child” program. This program is arranged in such a way that the children in Qatar will help other children who are living in difficult circumstances of war, violence and bloodshed,” said Dr Al Samman.
The “From Child to Child,” program will set out its activity starting with the children of Syrian refugees in Lebanon, and will extend to include children in Myanmar and other disaster-hit areas.
The Asmakh delegation visited several residential buildings inhabited by Syrian refugees. The visit showed the extent of accumulation of families in narrow buildings (a family of father, mother and five children are living in a room the area of which does not exceed six meters).
The team also visited the Islamic Medical Association and learnt their most important needs which include building a center to serve the Syrian refugees and residents of the area. Mothers and children are exposed to risk of death due to lack of nurseries for children and other medical equipment. The Al Asmakh Foundation has decided to build a hospital to provide care for mothers and children.
The team visited a camp of 50 families at Bar Elias area at Bekaa Al Awsat. The residents explained that many children do not go to school and those who are going, are not studying in formal way. A  number of families have been registered for aid, but no assistance has been provided to them.
The delegation  discussed ways of cooperation with Azharul Bekaa Foundation    Ishraq Al Noor Association in Lebanon in providing urgent aid to the refugees.
