Members of World Bihar Organisation (WBO), founded by intellectuals and professionals from India’s state of Bihar living in Doha, gathered yesterday to felicitate Indian expatriate M S Bukhari on his being conferred with an award in his home country.

The occasion also served as a launch pad for the newly formed organisation, which aims to extend support from the expatriate Bihari community in Qatar and across the world to the development of Bihar.

The organisation is the brainchild of Bihari intellectuals, including Shakeel Kakavi, Aqueel Ahmed, Sarfaraz Hassan, Gauhar Altaf, Anwar Kareem, and Mahfuz Hassan.

Kakavi, president of WBO, conducted the programme, while Kareem, joint secretary, delivered the welcome speech.

Aqueel Ahmed, general secretary of WBO, congratulated Bukhari and shed light on the vision, mission and objectives of WBO.

The names of members of the governing body and executive committee, patrons and advisors were announced.

Some of the distinguished members of the community present on the occasion were Nilanshu Dey, Mohammed Habibun Nabi, Azim Abbas, Syed Abdul Hai, Harish Kanjani, K M Varghese, Sulaiman Dehlvi, Karim Abdulla, Milan Arun and Anil Srinivasan.

Almost all speakers noted the humility and generosity of Bukhari, who was presented with an award on NRI Divas on January 10 in New Delhi. The award was instituted by NRI Institute, a non-profit organisation set up to provide a platform to Indians living abroad who wish to contribute to the country’s development.

Bukhari plans to invest more of his energy and time in the field of education and for the uplift of underprivileged members of society.

Sarfraz Hassan, senior vice president, and Gauhar Altaf, vice president of WBO, presented a memento and shawl to Bukhari and wished him a bright future.

The function ended with a vote of thanks followed by dinner.
