DOHA: Over 150 teachers and coordinators of different subjects from 83 Independent and international schools were introduced to and trained in the educational cyber safety programme ‘Haseen’ at 10 interactive workshops organised throughout last week by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ictQATAR)’s Digital Society Department in collaboration with the Supreme Education Council.
The workshops were attended by 80 technology teachers and coordinators from 43 international schools, 95 coordinators of Arabic and English from independent schools and 62 female students and six doctors from the Community College of Qatar.
Featuring presentations and lectures, the workshops educated teachers on the cyber safety topics that Haseen covers along with the best practices, helped them to better understand the program, its vision, mission and end goals as well as how to use the Haseen’s specially-designed search engine.
The sessions also offered a great platform for teachers and coordinators to explore the program content. Attendees were trained in how to guide school administrations on the process of registering new teachers onto the program portal, a multi-feature, interactive platform with icons like rate, comment, share and bookmark that teachers will be using inside classrooms to raise their students’ cyber safety awareness. Teachers who already attended these sessions will — in turn- teach their colleagues. The portal leaves teachers and coordinators free to choose the most convenient approach for their students.
“Haseen is of a great value to our educational sources and activities. Teachers can utilize it to prepare their classes, using its available sources such as the working papers and video clips to enrich the content of the class periods,” said Mohamed Hussain Abdel Latif, coordinator, Omar Bin Abdul Aziz Independent Secondary School.
“I found Haseen digital content portal for the first to 12th grade students hosted on SafeSpace website highly informative and extremely useful. It provides different learning resources such as videos, animations, animated quizzes and worksheets linked with many educationally sound resources for teachers to use in Arabic and English. It is also worth to highlight the uniqueness of this Haseen program. Here, students learn the information and competencies through learning activities that are culturally relevant, have local appeal and reflect Qatar’s local cyber safety priorities,” said Jency George, teacher, MES Indian School in Doha.
Haseen is an Internet safety and security awareness programme for students, tackling up to 13 cyber safety topics and aims at empowering schoolchildren in education stages from 1st to 12th grade to stay safe online.
