DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has provided fresh humanitarian aid of QR600,000 to the besieged people of Aleppo in Syria. The aid includes baby milk, bread and other basic foodstuffs. Some 44,000 people fighting for survival due to heavy bombardments by the regime forces have benefited from the project.
The ongoing shelling has worsened the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo. There is a severe shortage of food, baby milk and basic services, a QC statement said.
Qatar Charity is carrying out relief projects in Aleppo city as part of its ongoing campaign titled Save Aleppo. The campaign is supported by Qatari philanthropists, including citizens and expatriates, said Director of Relief Management at QC, Rashid Al Kaabi.
People in Aleppo are in urgent need of more aid due to the deteriorating situation caused by heavy bombardment of homes, hospitals and food stores. The number of victims is increasing. Innocent citizens are being targeted, he said.
The distribution of aid in Aleppo started in August and ended this month. The distribution was in two phases: 4,000 food baskets were distributed to 20,000 people, bread bundles were distributed to 23,000 people and four baby milk cans were distributed to 700 children a month.
Qatar Charity launched its Save Aleppo campaign in the beginning of May and allocated QR10m as a first instalment.
People can donate to the campaign through Al Rayan Bank Account Number: IBAN/ QA40MAFR000000000003111111001, or via QC’s website www.qcharity.org , or the headquarters of QC and its branches in Qatar, or through the collection outlets at shopping malls.
