DOHA: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has issued warning to International School of Choueifat for teaching a textbook with objectionable contents.

All copies of the books have been seized and the ministry has forced the school to refund the money collected from students as cost of the book, the Ministry tweeted yesterday. The school has been asked to take prior permission from the Ministry before circulating any book in future.

Following reaction from people on social media about the issue the ministry posted four comments on updating them about the actions of Ministry in this regard.

“We would like to clarify about the issue of teaching a book with objectionable contents by International School of Choueifat raised on social media”.

The Ministry had sent a team to the school to investigate the issue.

“After investigation it was found that the textbook has contents against our customs and traditions and our religion as well,” the Ministry tweeted. Citizens lauded the move of the Ministry but said that the controversial textbook should have been checked before including it in the school’s curriculum.

“The textbooks are supposed to go through official inspection and revision before entering the curriculum,” reads a remark.

Excerpts from the objectionable textbook provided by Al Sharq read, “Explosives are attached to the bombers body. They approached their target and explode the bomb. Palestinian terrorists well known for this”.

“Palestinian terrorists took over several airliners in 1970, including two Americans, one Swiss and one British.

“They targeted American planes because they felt that USA always helped out Israel, a country that occupied land that the Palestinians claims is their own.

“They wanted their own country — Palestine — and wanted land that Israel occupied.

“Terrorist acts continue today in this area of the Middle East.”
