DOHA: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday underscored the key role Qatar Petroleum (QP) is playing in the country’s hydrocarbon sector.

In a statement marking the launch of QP’s new corporate vision, the Premier said: “QP is a national institution with a strong presence in the country. It has shouldered the huge responsibility in the operation of the hydrocarbon sector, ranging from drilling and exploration through the production, processing, refining, storage and transportation. This is in addition to the responsibility of dealing with hydrocarbon derivatives and its subsidiary products in terms of their marketing, distribution, sale and export.”

He said QP has been able to strike a balance between the needs of the current generation and the rights of future generations.

The Premier said: “The new vision states to be a world class oil and gas corporation, with its roots in Qatar, and a strong international presence. It captures QP’s heritage and achievements  in the  effort to build a future based on world-class performance.”

QP has accomplished the main aims it set for itself almost 15 years ago, including the achievement of 77m tonnes per annum of LNG production, raising crude oil production capacity, diversifying downstream and developing its human resources for new challenges. The time is right for us to launch an updated vision statement to guide our future strategies, he said.

QP’s vision is a beacon positioned to rise to the level of future challenges. He said all state agencies will continue to provide all support to QP to help it achieve the vision. QP is in the forefront in its attempts to help Qatar realise the National Vision 2030, he said. The Peninsula
