DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) is to dispatch portable clinics at a cost of QR3.6m to provide healthcare services to Iraqi citizens displaced from Mosul to Kurdistan in Iraq due to unrest.
More than 10,000 people will benefit from the initiative, said Dr Ayed bin Dabssan Al Qahtani, Chairman, Board of Trustees and General Director, RAF.
“RAF’s local partners in Iraq will conduct a survey on urgently basis to mobilise the clinics as health conditions of displaced people do not allow for any delays,” he added.
“The doctors interested to take part to the initiative should not hesitate to contact RAF to complete the departure procedures to provide healthcare services to displaced people sheltering in Mosul, Al Falluja and Al Ramadi,” he added.
RAF is dispatching portable clinics to cure patients suffering from infectious diseases in the tents. Their health conditions are deteriorating and they need urgent support.
A large number of displaced people are suffering from chronic diseases, old-age diseases and due to malnutrition.
RAF urged philanthropists — citizens and expatriates — in Qatar help rescue the displaced people in Iraq and said it is providing 50 percent of the cost of the initiative from its emergency fund.
RAF distributed basic foodstuff to the displaced people that would be enough for a month. It took three days to distribute food items to displaced people. During distribution in a tent of displaced people in Irbil in Iraq, an old woman approached the head of the RAF and sought financial support to pay the medical bill.
The woman is suffering from an eye disease and if she cannot receive treatment on time, she could lose sight. She requested the delegation to provide medical services and foodstuff. She was assured of medical services soon as her brothers in Qatar would not leave her and others helpless at their tough time.
