Doha: Twitteratis in Qatar took to their favourite social media site reminscing their childhood days in Qatar commenting with the hashtag #GrowingUpInQatar. Though we are unsure of the emergence of the hashtag, it started trending around 10:30 am on Monday.
While for many it was the hanging out at City Center and Villagio, few others tweeted about the affordable good old days.
The yellow taxi also found a mention.
One of the Indian expats spoke about visiting the Aladdin Kingdom. She says, "We always ended up being at Villagio or if families from back home visited, it was the Aladdin Kingdom."
Many were posting pictures from their childhood TV series, popular snacks and popular hangouts.
The play area above Sana shopping centre was remembered by many as it was one of the first play area at a shopping centre.
Apart from the Aladdin Kingdom, the other hangout zones mentioned were the gaming zone above Sana - Doha Fun activities and Games, Al Bidda Park (Rumailah), Mamoura Complex, Caravan Complex, etc. Most of these have either been shutdown for renovations or are not a frequently visited options any more.
There were also tweets from relatively younger crowd talking about trips to Vilaggio, which for many older generation never existed.
The hash tag throws up a very interesting mix of notalgia, which can be old for some and new for others. For one of our collegues it's "Doha Sheraton being the only hotel or structure on the corniche."
