London - Six people have been killed in an attack in central London in which three assailants were shot dead by police, Scotland Yard has said.
A van hit several pedestrians on London Bridge Saturday night before apparently crashing into railings.
Three men then left the vehicle and stabbed a number of people in Borough Market, south of the bridge.
Armed officers confronted and shot the suspects within eight minutes, the (BBC) reported.
In the meantime, the British Islamic Council expressed its condemnation and anger at the terrorist operations in London Bridge.
In a statement, Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain Harun Khan said: "I am appalled and angered by the terrorist attacks at London Bridge and Borough Market, in my home city. These acts of violence were truly shocking and I condemn them in the strongest terms.
"Muslims everywhere are outraged and disgusted at these cowards who once again have destroyed the lives of our fellow Britons. That this should happen in this month of Ramadan, when many Muslims were praying and fasting only goes to show that these people respect neither life nor faith. My prayers are with the victims and all those affected."
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May said that the incidents in London was being treated as "a potential act of terrorism" along with other reported violent incidents in the city.
"Following updates from police and security officials, I can confirm that the terrible incident in London is being treated as a potential act of terrorism," May said in a statement Sunday.
Separately, London mayor Sadiq Khan said the attack was a "deliberate and cowardly attack", and that he would take part in a security meeting with May later on Sunday.
"We don't yet know the full details, but this was a deliberate and cowardly attack on innocent Londoners and visitors," Khan said. "I condemn it in the strongest possible terms. There is no justification whatsoever for such barbaric acts,"
