Paris: Spain's Garbine Muguruza won her first Grand Slam title Saturday with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Serena Williams in the French Open final.
The 22-year-old becomes the first Spanish winner at Roland Garros since Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, who was watching from the President's Box, won the third of her titles in 1998.
Serena Williams, 34, had hoped to win a 22nd Grand Slam singles and tie Steffi Graf's Open-era record.
