DOHA: Qatar’s population increased by 7.7 percent in one year reaching over 2.52 million last month, from over 2.34 million recorded in March last year, shows data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
The data, however, shows a marginal decline compared to the previous month (February) with a recorded population of over 2.54 million.
Males constituted over 1.91 million of the population last month with an increase of 8.7 percent compared to March last year, while the number of females increased by 4.6 percent, reaching 609,055 last month.
The monthly report that covers a wide range of areas shows a significant drop in traffic violations in the country by an year-on-year decline of 18.4 percent.
A total of 155,584 traffic violations were recorded in March last year, which fell to 126,948 last month. The data also shows a decline by 10.6 percent compared to the previous month, February, which saw 142,031 violations.
Violations caught on radar declined by over 28 percent year-on-year, from 97,175 in March last year to 69,917 last month. Such violations declined by 27.5 percent from February this year, which recorded 96,503 cases.
Incidents of jumping red signal declined by 44.9 per cent, from 3,156 cases in March last year to 1,738 cases last month. There were 2,179 such cases recorded in February this year.
Registered vehicles drop by 17.1%
The number of new vehicles registered in the country declined by over 17.1 percent year-on-year from 11,368 in March last year to 9419 last month.
However, the figure reflects an increase by 14 percent compared to February this year, when 8259 new vehicles were registered.
The number of driving licences issued in the country also saw an increase last month compared to February, from 8,633 to 9,889.
However, the numbers declined by over 18 percent cent year-on-year compared to March last year, when 12081 licences were issued.
The number of traffic accidents dropped last month by over six percent compared to February this year, from 526 incidents to 494 incidents.
