• There is discussion in the social media about the UAE Federal Supreme Court sentencing Qatari physician Dr Mahmoud Al Jaidah to seven years in prison for supporting an illegal local organisation. The sentence is final and not subject to appeal.
• Some people have demanded that the authorities take measures to prevent men from entering shops that sell women’s items. The CMC had discussed this issue and made certain recommendations, but nothing has come of it.
• Many people have urged the authorities to monitor prices of spare parts. Many shops are exploiting buyers while some others are importing spare parts from neighbouring countries that are cheaper than those in Qatar. This issue has been raised annually but there has been no response from the authorities.
• There is a need to fix prices for dhow rides from the Corniche, as many people feel exploited when they book a boat. The price list should be displayed prominently in the dhows.
• Some people have urged the Traffic Department to deploy its officers to regulate traffic at the Sheraton roundabout and in front of City Center, where there are frequent traffic jams and many drivers jump the lights, putting people’s lives in danger.
• People are repeatedly complaining about spelling and other errors in signs in Arabic in different parts of Doha. The signs, especially those on roads and at worksites, should be corrected as some of them mislead people instead of guiding them.
• Some people have expressed disappointment at the closure of Sheraton Doha for two years for maintenance, as they had booked halls there for weddings. The clients were not informed in advance of the closure and will have to look for alternative venues.
