Doha: Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development (QF) invites prospective students to its Graduate Open House to be held on Monday at 6pm at the HBKU Student Centre.
Participants will not only have the chance to hear about the university’s multidisciplinary programmes, but will also be offered opportunity to enjoy sample lectures given by HBKU professors.
The lectures will match the broad range of subjects offered at graduate level.
The sample lectures will offer valuable insight into student life at the university and cover such topics such as food safety and outbreak investigation, how basic science can be used to combat the spread of diseases, the role of design and innovation  in sustainability, the role of translation in the modern world, constitutional law, and how computing has changed our lives.
The event will also offer attendees the chance to be among the first to hear about four of HBKU’s newest planned programmes under its College of Science and Engineering: A PhD in Computer Science and Engineering; M.S. degrees in Bioengineering; Cybersecurity; and Data Science and Engineering.
Participants will also have the opportunity to preview the four new innovative programmes ahead of their official launch.
The programmes have been designed to respond to ongoing advances in science and technology and reflect local needs and global trends.
Students enrolling in the programmes will be given opportunity to work on crucial issues in their fields through a research thesis or by working on an industrial project.
The programmes will join HBKU’s extensive portfolio of graduate programmes — from Sustainable Energy; Biological and Biomedical Science; Law; and Public Health; to Audiovisual Translation; Public Policy in Islam; Islamic Finance; and Urban Design and Architecture in Islamic Societies.
The subjects students can pursue at the university are targeted to match the educational, social and economic goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
With HBKU’s main 2016 admissions deadline approaching, the admission team will be on hand at the event to offer advice and guidance to those interested in joining the university’s expanding student population.
Dr Khaled Ben Letaief, Provost, HBKU, said: “In a relatively short period of time, we have attracted many world-class faculty to share knowledge with our growing student body. By offering sample lectures at our Graduate Open House, we are giving attendees a small glimpse of the work being done by our professors in educating tomorrow’s leaders.
“We are looking for students who want to broaden their intellectual depth by seeking solution to challenges that lie at the crossroads of traditional disciplines.
“Our programmes are designed to give students knowledge and skills needed to have a meaningful impact on their communities.
“As the application deadline for 2016 nears, I encourage those wanting to obtain a graduate degree to visit our Open House and learn more about the possibilities waiting for them at our university,” Dr Ben Letaief added.
