DOHA:  In an easy doubles final, Czech pair Tomas Berdych and Jan Hajek yesterday eased past top seeds Alexander Peya of Austria and Bruno Soares of Brazil to win their maiden title as a team.
Berdych and Hajek combined well to win the doubles crown in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-4 in 70 minutes on centre court at Khalifa Tennis Complex that was packed to capacity.
The Czech pair produced an all-round baseline game to thwart Peya and Soares from claiming their ninth doubles crown.
In the first round, Berdych and Hajek beat Santiago Giraldo and Joao Sousa before hammering Oliver Marach and Florin Mergea in the quarter-finals.
In the semi-finals, Berdych and Hajek beat Christopher Kas and Philpp Kohlscreiber to reach the title clash where they stunned the top seeds Peya and Soares.
It was Berdych’s second doubles title whereas his Hajek’s picked up his maiden doubles win.
Hajek paired up with Jaroslav Levinsky lost to Kholschreiber and Mikhail Youznhy of Russia in the 2007 Munich final.
