Doha, Qatar: The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs organised an “Athar Session” for children at the Orphans Care Centre (Dreama), one of the centres operating under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work, as part of its “Athar Session” programme.
The initiative reflects the department’s commitment to strengthening community engagement and promoting the values of solidarity, compassion and giving. It also highlights its belief that the values of zakat extend beyond financial assistance to encompass social solidarity, cooperation and community responsibility.
During the visit, a delegation led by Director of the Zakat Affairs Department Mohamed Abdul Latif Al Mahmoud, met with the children in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The delegation also included the Assistant Director for Public Services and the Head of the Zakat Services Section.
The session featured a range of interactive religious and educational activities aimed at promoting positive values and raising awareness among the children about the importance of giving, solidarity and social responsibility. The activities also sought to strengthen the children’s sense of care, appreciation and belonging.
Executive Director of the Orphans Care Centre (Dreama) Sheikha Najla bint Ahmed Al Thani, expressed her appreciation to the Zakat Affairs Department for the visit and the community initiative. She stressed the importance of community partnerships in supporting the centre’s mission and enhancing the care and support provided to the children.
“We value these initiatives, which reflect the spirit of solidarity and social cohesion that characterizes Qatari society,” she said, noting that such activities strengthen human connections with the children and enrich their experiences through meaningful encounters that leave a positive impact.
She added that coordinated efforts among institutions and organizations are essential to supporting children and promoting their positive integration into society. Such cooperation, she said, helps create a supportive and motivating environment that strengthens their self-confidence, develops their abilities and contributes to building responsible individuals who are proud of their national identity and capable of making a positive contribution to society.
Al Mahmoud said the visit was part of the department’s efforts to strengthen its community presence and promote the humanitarian values at the heart of the zakat obligation.
“The department’s responsibility is not limited to providing zakat services and raising awareness about its rulings, but also extends to direct engagement with different segments of society and participation in initiatives that leave a positive impact on individuals,” he said.
He added that the department was pleased to meet the children at the Orphans Care Centre (Dreama) as part of the “Athar Session” programme, describing the gathering as an opportunity to strengthen human connections, build bridges of affection and harmony, and translate community responsibility into tangible practices.
