DOHA: The latest collections of abayas, kaftans and jalabiyas by some of the best Gulf designers are being showcased at Qatar’s leading fashion exhibition which opened yesterday at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.
The ninth Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition got off to a glittering start with more than 200 customised boutiques showcasing latest creations.
It was inaugurated by Saleh Hamad Al Sharqi, Acting Director-General, Qatar Chamber, in the presence of Ibtihaj Al Ahmadani, Chairperson, Qatar Business Forum, and hundreds of fashion enthusiasts, designers, industry experts, entrepreneurs and visitors.
As part of the opening ceremony, models wearing elegant designs sashayed at a grand fashion show. Some of the designers from Qatar include Debaj, Al Dukan, M.Jay Design, Jo La Mode and Harlenz.
The ladies-only event being held under the theme ‘Elegance Re-imagined’ continues until Monday. It’s organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA)  and Design Creationz.
The trendsetting exhibition has the latest and finest summer, Ramadan and Eid fashion designs. Alongside apparel, visitors will also be able to choose from a broad range of accessories that includes handbags, purses, footwear, belts and scarves.
The exhibition also offers fashion-related activities, including shows, hands-on workshops, and discussion forums. VIP lounges and other meeting locations offer places where leading Arabian fashion designers and enthusiasts can network.
“The ninth Heya has introduced free tutorials on hair dressing and makeup. It’s open to exhibitors and visitors,” Sheikha Al Sulaiti, a spokes person for Heya, told The Peninsula.
Heya presents a unique opportunity for customers to purchase a variety of their preferred styles on the spot. “The previous editions showcased only clothes , now accessories have been included, making it a one-stop fashion exhibition. What makes Heya exclusive is that the creations interpret the latest trends in Arabian fashion while preserving Khaliji and the rich Arabic traditions,” said Al Sulaiti.

Heya springboard for Ramadan and summer collections

As Qatar’s biggest and most popular showcase of traditional Arabic attire, Heya acts as the perfect springboard for Ramadan and summer collections,” she added. QTA supports Design Creationz in the delivery of Heya as part of its efforts to empower the private sector to attract and host global events.
A QTA spokesperson said: “QTA considers exhibitions and conferences one of the most important tools in developing business events tourism, and we strive to support the private sector to grow innovative platforms for sectors, including art and fashion. “Far more than a fashion exhibition, Heya is a cultural event, designed by artists and thought leaders, and woven with the thread of Islamic culture and heritage.”
