Shanghai: Chinese stocks closed lower on Wednesday as market liquidity tightened and investors took profits in construction-related shares.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index declined 0.27 percent, or 8.37 points, to 3,135.35 on turnover of 190.2 billion yuan ($27.6 billion).
The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, fell 0.27 percent, or 5.13 points, to 1,901.75 on turnover of 241.1 billion yuan.
