As Shop Qatar festival nears its conclusion, more events are being held at various venues including outdoor festivities and the Doha Comedy Festival, which both kicked off yesterday.

Organised for the second time during the festival, the three-day outdoor festivities began yesterday at the Hotel Park in front of the iconic Sheraton Doha providing visitors a stunning view of West Bay skyscrapers. The new park was also a perfect spot to watch the breathtaking fireworks display at 8pm while sampling varied snacks sold from 20 food carts and trucks which lined up at the venue.

The food outlets will be open while the park activities and fireworks display will continue from 4pm till 10pm until tomorrow.

Yesterday also marked the launch of the three-day Doha Comedy Festival at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) with the Arabic Night featuring comedians Nemr, Rajae Qawas, Nikolas Khoury, Mohanad Al Hattab, Wonho Chung and Mohammad Salem.

There are two more comedy shows to watch: the Khaleeji show tonight by comedians from the GCC and the sold-out International show tomorrow night which will feature The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, and America’s Got Talent winner Paul Zerdin.

The Lagoona Mall’s Piazza witnessed a fashion show last night which showcased the latest in Oriental and Arabian fashion collections created by 10 local and five international designers.

While some of the local participants were entrepreneurs whose creations are featured at the festival’s pop-up shops at various malls, a number of designers were students and alumni of Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar (VCUQatar). International participants were from Kuwait, Pakistan, India and Hong Kong.

Theatre enthusiasts also enjoyed the original production of Broadway musical Cats which staged another successful performance at the QNCC last night, with four more remaining shows to play today and tomorrow.

Meanwhile, excitement is building up as the final Shop Qatar raffle draw, which will see one lucky shopper become a millionaire, draws near. A total of QR1.57m will be given away to 15 winners during the mega draw on Tuesday which will be followed by a concert by award-winning Iraqi singing sensation Majid AlMuhandes.
