48 violations of consumer law detected last month

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce said yesterday that it had detected 48 violations of the law regulating consumer protection last month.
The violations varied between lack of disclosure of prices of goods or services, increasing prices before having the required permission from the authority concerned, announcing offers without permission, providing false information about products and selling expired products. According to the law No 8/2008, offenders are subject to punishments including closure for a certain period of time and fines between QR5,000 and QR30,000.
Meanwhile, the Ministry issued 326 licences for discount and promotions last month.
