Doha: Qatar University’s (QU) College of Medicine will organise the 5th annual conference of Middle-Eastern Association for Cancer Research (MEACR) on November 28-29 in Gaziantep, Turkey, in conjunction with Middle Eastern Association for Cancer Research (MEACR) and Faculty of Medicine of Gaziantep University.
Themed ‘Cancer Disease from Basic Science to Clinic;, the conference will bring together clinicians and cancer scientists in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region to network and share research and experiences on topics related to human cancers. Speakers and presenters include researchers from Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Egypt and Morocco. Over 100 participants, including around 50 graduate students from Mena, are expected to attend. The agenda includes sessions to address topics such as diagnosis, care, management and prevention of the disease; anti-cancer agents in medicinal chemistry; clinical trials; breast, lung and urologic cancer; nanotechnology; stem cell research; and viral and bacterial infection; among others. Accepted abstracts will be published in MEACR’s Clinical Cancer Investigation Journal, a free open access and peer-reviewed online journal.
Dr Egon Toft, Vice President for Medical Education, QU, and Dean of the college, said: “The forum reflects the college’s collaborative efforts with international institutions to advance the healthcare sector in Qatar and promote research on the global growing issue of cancer to ensure early detection, prevention, treatment and care. It is also an opportunity for our students to meet and network with peers, health experts and researchers from other institutions in the region to share experiences and best practices in line with the college’s commitment to provide students with opportunities that contribute to enhancing their skills and competencies.”
Dr Ala-Eddin Al Moustafa, a professor from the college, Editor-in-Chief of the journal and Manager, MEACR, said: “The conference underlines the level of research being conducted at the college to serve the Qatari society and beyond.”
