Doha: The Next Generation (TNG) school recently hosted its first graduation ceremony to celebrate the success and achievements of the graduating students of grades 11 and 12 – the class of 2019.
Established in 2009 to bridge the gap of quality education in the emerging State of Qatar, TNG aims to provide quality education which develops confidence, encourages leadership, independent thinking and inspires students to become responsible global citizens.
The Chief Guest of the ceremony, Dr Hamda Hassan Al Sulaiti, Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, motivated the students and appreciated the efforts of TNG as an educational institute. She shared Qatar’s vision of 2030 and emphasised the importance of education for personal development. She expressed that she wants to see these graduates as a part of Qatar’s workforce, working to help Qatar grow.
Addressing the young leaders at the ceremony, Ailia Rizvi, Principal TNG, said: “Continue to read, study hard and may your education allow you to touch hearts and be the voice of those who are vulnerable, give you the courage to question stale assumptions and empower you to create a better world.”
To recognise the graduates’ accomplishments, several awards were announced. The Valedictorian awards for Commerce and Science stream were awarded to Mariam Riyaz Bakali and Minahil Maqsood, respectively. Mahnoor Imran received the ‘Overall Top Achiever Award’ for achieving the highest number of A*’s in IGCSEs and making outstanding contributions to the school.
Academic Excellence Awards were also given to students who scored A*’s in their IGSCE Examinations. As an educational institute, TNG encourages all stakeholders, especially its students to adopt, assimilate and reflect its organizational values in their behaviour. Therefore, along with the Academic Awards, the students also received values-based awards.
Hafiz Junaid Amir Sial, Defence Attaché of Embassy of Pakistan, and Nimrod Garry D’silva, Accounts Relationship Manager at British Council, were also invited as the Guest of Honours.
Speaking to the students, Hafiz Junaid, said: “You should be a compassionate person and you are assured successful winnings.” While Nimrod Garry D’silva, remarked that these young students have the potential to change the world as we know it; from finding a cure to incurable diseases to solving problems that are just now emerging.”
Concluding the ceremony, CEO of TNG, Shagufta Bakali, advised the class of 2019 to remain modest, kind, and hardworking. She further added: “You have so much to offer to the world. Go forth and take your place.”
