Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) announced an update to the commercial activities of existing companies effective June 1, 2026.
MoCI has begun implementing an update of registered commercial activities for existing companies in line with the Gulf Cooperation Council’s Unified Economic Guide for the Classification of Economic Activities.
Effective from June 1, 2026, the initiative aims to standardise business activity classifications, improve data quality, enhance transparency, and streamline procedures, while ensuring there is no change to the nature of companies’ activities or their commercial registrations.
In a post on its X platform, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry stated “MoCI has launched an update to the registered commercial activities of existing companies, in accordance with the Unified Economic Guide for the Classification of Economic Activities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, starting from 1 June 2026.”
“The update aims to unify activity classifications, improve data quality, enhance transparency, and facilitate procedures, without any impact on the nature of the activity or the commercial registration.
Commercial activities will be updated automatically in accordance with the approved classification, and business owners are not required to take any action,” it added.
The update targets existing business owners and companies and relevant government entities and will be implemented in three phases.
The first phase begins on Monday (June 1, 2026). During this phase the commercial activities of companies that have one specific activity under the Unified Classification of Economic Activities will be updated.
The second phase will begin on June 15. It will include commercial activities of companies that have one specific activity corresponding to multiple activities under the Unified Classification of Economic Activities which will be updated.
The third phase will start on June 30 and will cover mixed activities, including both commercial and industrial activities.
During this period the commercial activities of companies that have mixed activities – commercial and industrial will be updated in accordance with the United Classification of Economic Activities.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry further stated that the process of updating commercial activities will be carried out automatically in accordance with the approved classification. Business owners are not required to take any action and this update will have no impact on the nature of the activity or the commercial registration.
