DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment yesterday launched a massive clean-up campaign in Industrial Area to remove all construction wastes, abandoned vehicles, illegal portacabins and abandoned tyres.
A number of government entities are participating in the campaign, spearheaded by the Temporary Committee for Public Cleaning at the ministry, including the Doha Municipality, Lekhwiya, Traffic Department, and Al Fazaa.
Safar Al Shafi, Director of General Cleanness Project at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said that four teams comprising 240 workers and employees, working on two shifts in the day, in addition to 80 equipment are participating in the campaign.
One team is responsible for inspecting and recording violations by companies, garages and other commercial outlets, another for removing wastes dumped in violation of the rules, the third for recording violations related to abandoned vehicles and the fourth for removing abandoned vehicles.
“ To make the work easier, Industrial Area has been divided into different areas, and the campaign expects to remove daily about 150 abandoned vehicles and 500 tones of wastes,” said Al Shafi.
About 81 drivers, 106 cleaners, six technicians and 15 inspectors from Doha Municipality are participating in the campaign, and the temporary committee’s works will continue for three months.
Abandoned vehicles will be kept for one day in the yard facing street 33 in Industrial Area, and then they will be removed to the permanent place in Al Mashraf, while wastes are taken away to Rawdat Rashid. The Peninsula
