DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has ordered closure for a month as punishment of a retail outlet in Al Aziziyah for displaying and selling counterfeit beauty products, mobile phone accessories and clothing.
The violation was caught during an inspection campaign by the Ministry to monitor the market and ensure that outlets do not indulge in price manipulations, and standard specifications are followed and imitations of branded products are not displayed and offered for sale.
A Ministry press statement said yesterday that its inspectors fined the outlet and ordered its closure for one month as punitive action as per article 7 of Law No 8 of 2008.
The law stipulates that suppliers of goods shall clearly display on product labels description of goods and their ingredients and refrain from posting any misleading or false statements.
An announcement about the closure is posted on the website of the Ministry and published in two local newspapers and the errant outlet must pay for it as per the law.
The Ministry has urged people to report suspected violations using its hotline 16001 or email: [email protected].
