About 845 environmental violations were recorded last year by the Environmental Protection, Nature Reserves and Wildlife Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, in addition to 2,030 warnings issued the same year.
Omar Salem Al Nuaimi, Director, of Environmental Protection Department said that in order to protect environment, all authorities concerned made their efforts to curb violations.
Among the prominent violations registered was camel grazing in prohibited areas, followed by violations of hunting law, throwing waste in non-designated places and cutting trees, among others, he added.
The department, in collaboration with some schools, has conducted a number of clean-up campaigns.
On winter camps season, Al Nuaimi said that the number of registered campers is more than 2,360, noting that inspectors are conducting inspection visits and any violators to rules are transferred for environment prosecution to complete the legal procedures.
