DOHA: The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) yesterday launched the fifth edition of its Springboard programme to achieve professional, economic and social empowerment of Qatari women.
The three-weeks course at Millennium hotel is organised in cooperation with the British Council and Springboard UK, attended by 18 women from low-income families.
The opening ceremony was attended by Manal Al Sulaiti, Head, QRCS Community Development, Maha Al Sheikh, Empowerment Specialist, Mona Farag, Administrative Officer, and Marwa Al Tanbouli, Springboard Program Manager at the council.
Participants are divided into two groups, each attending four workshops that will provide them with practical training and activities in successful planning for their lives, goal prioritisation, orientation, perfection, teamwork and building positive relationships.
They will also meet prominent figures from different walks of life, who share their success stories, challenges they faced and how they could overcome them. This can motivate them towards dedication, perseverance and commitment to their goals. Such successful women constitute role models for the participants.
The programme is organised under a memorandum of understanding between QRCS and the council. During its three previous courses, the programme received 72 women and cost about QR150,000. It is developed by the world’s two top personal development consultants Jenny Daisley and Liz Willis.
Launched in Qatar in 2009 in cooperation with Qatari Businesswomen Association, the programme awards certificates from Springboard UK and the council.
Al Sulaiti said, “Springboard is a highly sophisticated professional development programme that provides housewives with opportunity to communicate and interact positively with different situations, set and pursue clear goals for themselves, and enhance skills such as self-confidence and balance between career and personal life.”
Al Tanbouli thanked QRCS and said: “Our partnership with QRCS is built on its leading role in developing societies and advancing vulnerable groups, particularly women.
“For the second consecutive year, we are happy to provide a programme designed specifically for Qatari women of all ages.”
Springboard is a women-centred programme that has won global awards for enabling women in many countries to have more appreciation and influence and attain their potential at work and in personal life.
It serves many institutions, universities, government bureaus, ministries, municipalities and banks, including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and HSBC Bank.
The council translated it into Arabic to help Arabic-speaking women discover their capabilities and make better achievements personally and professionally.
