DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has launched income-generating projects at a cost of QR1m for poor families in Irbil Governorate in northern Iraq.
The projects include setting up commercial shops for hardware items, generators and groceries, among others. Commercial vehicles like vans and pickups were also provided.
The 50 most deserving families benefitted from the projects in phase I. The initiative aims at helping establish small businesses to generate income for poor families to improve their living condition.
The beneficiary families comprising over 300 members will be able to earn enough money to cover their daily expenses. They were also provided with financial support, training and consultancy to set up businesses and make them productive. The poor families with no income were selected for the projects and priorities were given to those with disabilities, widows and divorcees. It was also kept in mind that each beneficiary family should have enough members to run the business.
Meanwhile, RAF plans to provide 7,000 sacrificial animals to poor people worldwide during Eid Al-Adha.
More than 40,000 people will benefit from the initiative in 62 African, Asian and European countries, including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Myanmar, Somalia and Uganda. RAF has signed agreements with 180 local partners in these countries.
