Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the construction of a new pumping station in the Labour City, a rising main, and Treated Sewerage Effluent (TSE) line at a cost of QR1.1bn.
The Labour City in Mesaimer, close to the Industrial Area, serves 75,000 labourers who are working on mega infrastructure projects for World Cup 2022.
The work comes as part of four packages of construction of pumping station and rehabilitation projects, comprising construction of new stations, upgrading of 27 pumping stations and 18 rising mains spread across Doha, Al Wakrah, Al Rayyan and Saliya executed in a span of five-and-a-half years.  The completed pumping station which has a length of five kilometres rising main would discharge sewage out of the Labour City into the Industrial Treatment Plant at a maximum capacity of 417 litres per second.
A Treated Sewerage Effluent (TSE) line, with a three kilometre length, was also constructed to supply irrigation water to the Labour City landscape to provide a green and conducive environment for workers.
In line with the Qatari Labour Law, the utility renovations will guarantee a proper handling of the sanitary sewerage system, thus improving workers’ health and welfare.
The Labour City’s new constructions had a total value of QR61.7m, while the cost of the multi-phase pumping station construction and upgrading programme is about QR1.1bn.
