Doha: Qatar Assistive Technology Center (Mada) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Rehabilitation of People with Disabilities Department at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The MoU aims at building specialised competencies in the field of assistive technology, as well as providing the highest level of assistive technology for people with disabilities and patients requiring such services at HMC.
It comes to realise Qatar National Vision’s aim to provide the needs and enable the aspirations of people with disabilities in the Qatari community.
It was signed by Maha Mohammad Al Mansouri, CEO, Mada; and Mahmoud Saleh Al Raisi, Chief of Continuing care group, HMC.
The MoU also serves to strengthen the cooperation relationships between Mada and HMC and to streamline their efforts and resources in the development of services for people with disabilities and providing assistance and consultations to patients with disabilities at HMC. In addition to the Corporation specialists’ competencies development programme, the areas of cooperation also include the exchange of statistical data related to the people with special needs in Qatar as well as the early identification of their needs and requirements and to enable them to exercise their lives more independently.
Al Mansouri said: “We seek, through such memorandum, to build competencies specialized in the field of assistive technology at HMC across different areas, such as Paediatrics and Elderly Department, to ensure the integration of the services provided for the people with disabilities inside the corporation.
“HMC is a key partner in implementing its strategy aimed at enabling people with disabilities in Qatar to achieve their full potentials as well as enabling their surrounding environments to ensure that they have access to all they need for success’.
Al Raisi said: “Such cooperation between HMC and Mada would result in providing a high level of assistive technology services for the patients with special needs as well as the development and enhancement of the patient’s quality of life and integrating the patients into society together with supporting them in having independent lives and laying the right foundations of the assistive technology concept as a part of patient care and rehabilitation’.
