DPS-MIS organises friendly online debate

DPS- Modern Indian School, refusing to let the restraints of the coronavirus outbreak hinder the passion for debating, organised a friendly online international debate between St Mary’s School, Waverly, South Africa and DPS-MIS on April 16.

The battle of words, on the motion “This House Supports a Universal Basic Income”, was an opportunity for the participants to express their views on an international issue and hone their convincing and persuasive skills.  On the proposing end, there were Asin Ashraf, Azhar Jaleel Muhammad, and Aryan Dubey from DPS Modern Indian School and on the opposing end there were Tyla Promnick, Danika Neuhoff and Dalila Spinazze from St Mary’s School, Waverly, South Africa.

The debate was judged by a celebrated panel of international judges which included Dominic Fwamba from Tanzania who chaired the event, Mubarrat Wassey from Qatar , Shoneez Cassim from South Africa , Wairimu Manyara from Kenya ,Gladstone Thompson from Bermuda Islands, Joram Winjstra from Netherlands and Jisha Oomen from UAE.   

After a fierce debate with innovative and powerful arguments from both sides, the evening ended with a split decision favouring the opposing team St Mary’s School, Waverly, South Africa. DPS- Modern Indian School debater Aryan Dubey bagged the best speaker award.
