Hong Kong stocks close higher, Shanghai down

Hong Kong: Hong Kong stocks ended in positive territory Thursday, tracking gains across Asian markets, but mainland markets retreated following data pointing to a contraction in Chinese manufacturing.

The Hang Seng Index added 0.58 percent, or 148.57 points, to 25,809.22.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gave up 0.47 percent, or 14.56 points, to 3,102.62 while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, dropped 1.92 percent, or 34.69 points, to 1,773.61.
