Best known for its karak and signature-stuffed parathas, the brand opened its first outlet in Al Wakra in 2013. In a short time, the café has developed a loyal fan following attracting people from all over the country to try its unique offerings.
The success of the brand can be judged by the swift expansion of its outlets across Qatar. The brand has outlets are in five locations — one each in Matar Qadeem, Abu Hamour and Muaither and two in Al Wakra. Three more are ready to open in Al Dayeen, Al Wajba and Aziziya.
Yoonus Salim Vapattu, Managing Director and Co-founder of the cafe, said, “Karak and paratha are ingrained in Qatari culture since childhood. Right from school days to later in the adult life, a cup of karak and the fluffy parathas are part of the daily routine of any Qatari. We created the cafe out of our love and passion for karak. The success of our first outlet in Al Wakra and repeated requests from our loyal fans prompted us to expand the café into other parts of the country.
“For us, the young and talented, Hamad Al Amari is an ideal choice as he complements our brand with his work. He portrays a blend of fun, innovation and charisma exactly like Baba Chapatea.”
Al Amari, popularly known as “The Qatari Guy”, is a comedian and local producer of online content.
Balancing his life between being a Production Coordinator at Doha Film Institute and an advertising consultant, his ability to unite an international audience with his quick wit and cultural understanding has made him a local force in the stand-up comedy circles in Qatar. He is also a fantastic MC, TV presenter, writer; advocate for youth projects and supporter of local charities all adding value to him as a social influencer.
About his choice, Al Amari said: “Karak has become an integral part of the local and expat communities in Qatar. For me personally, associating with the cafe was an easy choice, as I can confidently say they have the best karak in Qatar!
“Trust me, I know good karak. Not just that though, I really believe in the vision of Yoonus Salim Vapattu and the brand I can really relate to it on a personal level. As a Qatari, it is a matter of pride for me to be part of the success story of the cafe, which is a completely home-grown Qatari brand. It is a testament to what Qatar has to offer as it is great to see expats and locals coming together to develop concepts that can potentially challenge not just the local market but on the international level as well! It’s easy my country, my choice – Baba Chapatea.”
