Doha, Qatar: The National Human Rights Committee has strongly condemned the Iranian military attacks that targeted the State of Qatar at noon on Saturday, describing them as a clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations, a blatant breach of public international law, and a disregard for the principles of state sovereignty.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Committee said that, in line with its legal mandate and jurisdiction, it had closely followed the developments surrounding the attacks and their repercussions. The Committee expressed its absolute condemnation of what it described as Iranian aggression against the State’s territory. It noted that the attacks had direct consequences for civilians and threatening their safety, as well as the security of civilian facilities and infrastructure, following the fall of missiles or shrapnel in residential areas.

According to the Committee, the attacks constitute a grave violation of international human rights law, particularly the right to life, the right to physical and psychological integrity, the right to freedom of movement, and the right to personal security. It stressed that these fundamental rights were seriously jeopardized as a result of the military escalation.

The Committee also commended the swift response and immediate measures taken by the Ministry of Interior and other competent authorities, which contributed to safeguarding the lives of citizens, residents, and visitors, and ensuring public safety. It called on the public to adhere to official guidance and instructions to further strengthen the protection of the right to life and the right to health.

Furthermore, the National Human Rights Committee confirmed that it will keep the matter under review and continue monitoring and documenting the impacts and violations arising from the attacks, in preparation for issuing a comprehensive and detailed report.

The Committee reiterated its firm commitment to promoting and protecting human rights and safeguarding the dignity of citizens, residents, and visitors to Qatar. It also emphasized the need to activate international accountability mechanisms to ensure justice and put an end to impunity.
