DOHA: Qatar Airways Group demonstrated its commitment to the fire life-safety of its staff and families by again hosting its annual Fire Safety Week for the third consecutive year. This is a significant week in the airline’s safety calendar that is focused on conducting awareness-raising displays and activities at various company venues, aimed at reducing the risk of fires in the home.

The official opening of Fire Safety Week 2018 was held at the airline’s Oryx International School campus on February 20, where live and static fire-safety displays and activities were presented to children by Qatar Airways Group Safety team members and Fire Safety trainers.

Qatar Airways, Senior Vice-President Human Resources, Nabeela Fakhri, said: “Qatar Airways is justifiably proud of this great initiative. We value the safety of our staff and their families above all.

For this reason, we have expended great energy to ensure the fire safety message reaches as many homes and families as possible through this very worthwhile annual event. It is wonderful to see so many staff and family members from all age groups actively participating”.

A key activity of every Fire Safety week is the annual Fire Safety Poster Competition. The annual awards for the competition winners has become the launch event and the much-anticipated highlight of the Week.

Entry is open to all company staff and family members, with entries judged and prizes awarded across several age groups from infant to adult. Oryx International School Principal, Jarlath Madine, said: “This is a great event that we are delighted to host. All our children need to learn the lessons of fire safety while they are young and take them into adulthood.

“We are very pleased to be part of this initiative and able to support Qatar Airways in their drive to keep our families safe and healthy. We would like to remain an active part of this initiative after we move to our new, purpose-built campus in Barwa due to open later this year”.
